Moving to a new location requires a step by step process and must be done in orderly fashion. A solid time line is necessary, and organisation is a prerequisite. Moving house checklists are available that you can print, or you can just have access to them online as you get ready to plan everything out. Here are some tips you can’t do without as you get ready to move everything in your home to your new house.
It was mentioned that a timeline is going to be necessary. Let’s look at what you are going to need to take care of well ahead of time, about a month in advance, at least. Are you going to hire a removal firm? If so, you might want to look at finding the right company and scheduling them at least a few months in advance.
As for a month ahead of time, that’s a good to start packing and sorting. You are also going to need to schedule your change of address with the post office. You can do that two weeks before, but getting to it a month ahead of time will ensure you’re not in a rush. You’re also going to need to notify utility companies at this point so that you can schedule disconnections.
Get your banking in order too, and that includes your credit cards. Are you going to have to contact schools? If you have school age children, you need to be taking care of those transfers as early as possible too. As you can see, there is quite a lot of issues that need your attention prior to the week that you actually plan to start moving.
Now let’s take a closer look at what a moving house checklist might look like for the week you plan to move. Three days prior to your move, it’s a good idea to pack yourself a go bag. It’s also a good time to start doing laundry so that you can finish up the packing. When you arrive at your destination, you want to be able to get into the place, so this is your reminder to make sure the keys are available.
Start looking through drawers, closets and other spaces to find out what other items have yet to be packed. Two days prior to moving, you need to start clearing out fridges and freezers. You can order pizza the next couple of days after using the items that are left. If you have more food than you thought, you could take them to a donation station.
Clean out your cupboards, as well. At this point, you’re prepared for moving day. Yet there is more to do than you can imagine on that day. As everything stands now, you’re a ways out from moving and are thinking about your checklist. Take the time now to think about whether you would be better off hiring a removal firm to help you get organised. Moving day is a bigger job than most people imagine, and perhaps it’s better for you to focus on being fresh when you arrive at your destination.
